Khairul Anuar Jalal is a self-taught artist born and based in Singapore, working primarily with figurative painting.

Alongside his full-time job and responsibilities as a husband and father, he pursues painting whenever time allows. Art has remained a personal passion and a space for exploring his thoughts, experiences and imagination.

Through years of experimentation and self-directed learning, his practice has evolved into an exploration of uncertainty and how the human mind recognizes and interprets incomplete information.

Living in a contemporary society increasingly conscious of seeing and being seen has deepened his interest in how we observe and interpret others. His paintings do not attempt to reveal who someone truly is or what they are thinking. Instead, they explore the possibilities that emerge between what is observed, what is imagined and what the observer brings from their own memories, experiences and assumptions.

For Khairul, painting is not only a way of interpreting the world around him, but also a means of discovering something about himself through the act of looking.
